Carry-on bag fee is spreading: Wizz Air to charge in Europe

  • Skift Take
After Allegiant in U.S., this is the first European airline. Is there a scope for a bag entrepreneur making small compact bags now?

European budget airline Wizz Air has announced plans to start charging passengers €10 ($12) to bring a cabin roller case on board the plane. Items that can fit under the seat, including laptops and handbags fly free. The Budapest-based airline is trialling the new fee on its London Luton to Katowice (Poland) route throughout August. Those bringing a large cabin bag weighing up to 10kgs on board will have to pay the fee, which includes earlier boarding after priority passengers.

Wizz Air is particularly fee happy, see list of all its fees. At least it is listing them clearly on its site.
