Baltimore Airport Replaces Payphones With Charging Stations

    Travelers certainly get a charge out of finding an available charging station and BWI is making that relief more of a possibility. Note to Millennials: Payphones were public telephones that could be used for a fee, usually a dime or a quarter, before the birth of smartphones.

    How many travelers can you fit into an airport charging station?

    That might be an appropriate question as Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) turned three banks of little-used pay phones into charging stations to provide a juice resupply to PCs, tablets, mobile phones, and other electronic devices.

    Positioned on Concourse D, the charging stations provide 184 outlets and USB ports.

    The airport plans to add more charging stations throughout the terminal in 2014, and the new installations supplement charging stations that airlines such as Southwest and Delta already offer in gate areas.
