Brazil’s New Tourism Site Teaches Tourists About Local Culture

  • Skift Take
Brazil is gearing up for the World Cup and an influx of foreign tourists that will likely last until the 2016 Olympics. Encouraging visitors to learn about its culture before arrival is good for tourists and locals alike.

Brazil is opening its doors to visitors, virtually. Brazil’s official tourism board Embratur launched a new interactive website this week.

The site visitbrasilhome.com allows visitors to explore different rooms of a virtual house and click on items that highlight elements of Brazil’s gastronomy, arts, music, sports teams, and culture.

Site visitors have to click on front door to enter the “house” and are welcomed by a woman speaking Portuguese. Visitors can move to the music room where they learn about Angenor de Oliveira, founder of a popular samba school, or Brazilian musician Seu Jorge. Or move to the kitchen to learn about traditional Brazilian cuisine or to the trophy room to learn about Brazilian sports accomplishments.

A spokesperson from Embratur’s PR agency FSB says the goal is to “raise awareness and interest so even more people decide to visit.” The content will be continually updated.

The site will complement, not replace, the official tourism website visitbrasil.com. Visitbrasil.com was featured on our recent list of the 20 best designed tourism websites in the world.
