Troubled Air India bets against long-hauls, says Indians like stopovers

  • Skift Take
Counter-intuitive, but what isn’t in India? Business travelers love non-stops, and hate Air India. Hence this spin for leisure travelers, which may have some truth to it.

The troubled Indian national carrier Air India won’t expand its non-stop flights to the U.S. from India. Instead, it plans to focus on promoting shorter flights, possibly with stop-offs to the U.S. and Canada.

The reason? Well, the company believes the Indian consumer doesn’t want premium nonstop flights like those offered by Singapore Airlines, and likes shopping or other leisure stopovers.
