MakeMyTrip Acquires Trip-Planning Startup MyGola

  • Skift Take
MyGola had a creative product but struggled to find an audience and to monetize it. It appears as though MakeMyTrip will now use MyGola to focus on travel inspiration and in-destination activities for the Indian traveler.

Indian online travel agency MakeMyTrip has acquired trip-planning app MyGola in a bid to bolster MakeMyTrip’s “understanding of travelers’ planning and in-destination experience preferences,” the company stated.

Founded in 2009 by Anshuman Bapna and Prateek Sharma, MyGola had raised $2.6 million in funding from Helion Ventures, Blumberg Capital, 500Startups and angels. Terms of the acquisition, which actually occurred several months ago, were not disclosed. MyGola’s 15-person team has transitioned to MakeMyTrip.

MyGola through various stages struggled to remain an ongoing concern as its cash flow was challenged.

MyGola began as a question and answer format, pivoted toward concierge-planned trips and later focused on digitally oriented trip-planning.

MakeMyTrip will likely use MyGola for spurring travel inspiration on the Web and for in-destination activities through its app.
