Skift Take

Skift has brought on two new team leaders to build the next phase of growth of our Editorial and Research teams.

As Skift moves into the sixth year of operation, we are adding senior leadership and talent across the company. This senior talent we have brought in will help us take our excellent Editorial and Research teams to new heights.

Over the past six months Skift has expanded its Research team to include three full-time analysts in addition to its team of outside expert analysts. In the past few months, we hired Rebecca Stone from Goldman Sachs and Seth Borko from JP Morgan as our Senior Analysts.

Skift’s Editorial team has grown to 10 people over the last year. Most of the team is based in our New York City headquarters, with additional reporters and editors in London, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Skift’s business of restaurants brand, Skift Table, is expanding, as well, with editorial staff in San Francisco and New York.

It’s my pleasure to announce the two new team leaders who will help make these things happen.

First, we have brought on Haixia Wang as our Senior Director of Research, in charge of, and working with, the team of in-house and external analysts to continue to build the Skift Research group into the best research practice in the global travel sector, and beyond.

Wang’s very first corporate experience was to start a team at eMarketer that built forecasts of the advertising market. From there on, she grew the forecasting product to be one of the core revenue sources at eMarketer. After that, she worked as a Research Director at Gartner, helping to launch a marketing spend and performance benchmark tool, and continuing research and client engagement on key marketing topics.

Wang’s previous experience includes teaching and non-profit work. She has a Ph.D. in sociology.

Outside of work, Wang enjoys her family, including her husband and two girls in Manhattan. Wang strives to have me-time here and there, too, reading and thinking about how she could help make the world a little better.

Her contact email is [email protected].

We have also hired veteran business editor Tom Lowry as Managing Editor of Skift, in charge of the editorial team, working with our co-founder and Editor Jason Clampet and Executive Editor Dennis Schaal to continue to produce great reporting on the global business of travel.

Lowry brings to Skift years of experience in business journalism across many media platforms. He was most recently a senior editor at CNBC Digital, where he helped build an enterprise news team focused on original reporting and analysis.

Before that, Lowry was the business editor of News Corp.’s iPad startup The Daily. Lowry wrote more than 10 magazine cover stories when he was the media editor for BusinessWeek. As a business reporter, he wrote for USA Today and the New York Daily News.

Lowry is a former Knight-Bagehot Fellow in Business and Economics Journalism at Columbia University and remains active with the fellowship’s alumni committee.

Lowry admits to being a geek about journalism movies. He still hasn’t seen anything better than 1952’s “Deadline U.S.A.” starring Humphrey Bogart. He and his wife, Bianca Lopez, owner of a jewelry design studio, live in New York City.

His contact email is [email protected].
