Alaska Air Group Inc. on Thursday reported second-quarter profit of $234 million.

The Seattle-based company said it had net income of $1.79 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, came to $1.76 per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 10 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.73 per share.

The airline posted revenue of $1.44 billion in the period, which met Street forecasts.

Alaska Air shares have climbed 27 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has risen 59 percent in the last 12 months.
