The most Instagrammed cities and places of 2013 are largely located in the U.S. so it's little surprise that the company is looking to hire an international communications manager. It needs more than U.S. travelers in foreign countries to expand its reach.

- New York City is the most Instagrammed city in the world. Here a little boy is seen in front of the Freedom Tower.

- Bangkok is the second most Instagrammed city in the world. The number one most Instagrammed place was located in Bangkok in 2012 and 2013.

- Los Angeles is the third most Instagrammed city in 2013. Two of the year’s most Instagrammed places were also located here: Dodger Stadium and the Staples Center.

- London is the 4th most popular city on Instagram. Here, the popular shopping area Carnaby is decked out in holiday decorations.

- A wall mural is seen in São Paulo, the first of two Brazilian cities on the list. There will be many more photo posts coming out of the country this summer during the World Cup.

- We were surprised to see Moscow make the top 10 of the most Instagrammed cities in 2013. Its stunning architecture is certainly well captured.

- Rio de Janeiro is the second Brazilian cities to show up on the top 10 list. Beaches, parties, and, of course, the Cristo Redentor statue pop up a lot.

- This HDR shot captures the laid back video of San Diego, one of three California cities on the list. Sunsets are definitely a popular shot captured by visitors and locals alike.

- The well-known tourism slogan “What Happens Here, Stays Here” took a hit with the rise of social media. Now Vegas visitors are letting the world know exactly what’s happening in real time.

- San Francisco is the largest city near Instagram’s headquarters in Menlo Park, CA. With so many tech companies and startups located in SF, there are hashtags galore.
The most frequently Instagrammed cities of 2013 are mostly located in the United States and Brazil. As part of an annual review, the photo-sharing app released a list of the 10 most photographed cities throughout the year.
Six of the top ten cities are located in the U.S., two are in Brazil, and one in each Thailand and the UK. The cities are home to the 10 most Instagrammed locations including malls, sports stadiums, and parks.
It’s been a big week for social media sites sharing information about user behavior. Earlier, Facebook shared the most checked-in travel sights in the U.S. and abroad, Twitter shared its most popular photo posts, and Foursquare shares its most checked into places.
