Ryanair's smartphone app replicates the cheap feel of its website, and offers users little in the way of what they need a mobile airline app for: real-time updates, gate info, and easy access to customer service.
- It was just released this week, but the landing screen for Ryanair’s app will take you back to 2009 iOS design.
- Users can read recent news from the airline.
- Booking choices are dependent upon flight origin.
- The previous and next day buttons allow users to find additional flights when there are no options on the day they searched.
- The wait/working screen is a common sight for users.
- When booking users have the option of choosing their title. It’s funny that they included ‘Doctor’ as an option.
- Three of Ryanair’s fees are clear in a later stage of booking.
- Users can also book a car within the app using Hertz.
- Users can look up past bookings.
When Ryanair released its smartphone app in September of 2012, the cost-conscious Irish airline wanted users to pay €3 for the privilege of booking their flight in the palms of their hands.
Perhaps as part of its attempt to go friendly, Ryanair this week released a free version of the app for Android and Apple’s iOS.
Robin Kiely, Ryanair’s Head of Communications said in a statement, “Ryanair’s mobile app is now available for download free of charge, the latest in a range of new initiatives aimed at further improving Ryanair customer service.”
The app has not been updated for iOS 7, instead it feels like something from 2009. Unlike other airlines’ apps, you can’t check the status of your flight. A link to Ryanair’s customer service page on its website is not present on the homepage.
