LodgeNet has been hamstrung by the switch in hotel guests' allegiances to their own portable entertainment devices. Sonifi Solutions will face some major challenges in trying to run counter to that trend.

LodgeNet, the troubled hotel in-room entertainment firm which just went through a slew of changes over the last few years including new owners, a bankruptcy, and management issues, is now trying to shed the troubles of its past, and has rebranded itself as Sonifi Solutions.

The company is coming out of prepackaged bankruptcy, and is now owned by private equity firm Colony Capital. With this new branding, it will refocus on content and connectivity for hospitality and healthcare industries, is says.

In its announcement, Sonifi, which claims to reach 1.4 million hotel rooms, indicated it is launching the Sonifi Stay1000 platform, and will make significant investments in broadband services.

Earlier this year, the company entered into a partnership with DirecTV, which finances some HDTV upgrades for hotels. Sonifi claims it will enter into new strategic partnerships along these lines in the coming months.
