As the Qantas-Emirates alliance started today, so did a pivotal moment in aviation history, with Gulf region firmly cementing itself as the hub of long-haul flights globally. The inaugural flight from Australia was a Qantas A380 and an Emirates A380, passing over the Sydney Harbor in what is believed to be the first time anywhere in the world where two commercial airline A380’s have flown in formation. Watch in full screen mode to catch in full glory.

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce and Emirates President Tim Clark watched the flyover from the steps of the Sydney Opera House, according to the companies.
