Skift Take

Khosrowshahi and Expedia demonstrate how a brand can take a politically charged subject, take the right side in the debate, then make a deep connection with customers around the inspirational message.

Expedia is doubling down on its proclaimed support of same-sex marriage with a poignant wedding-themed video.

Titled “Find Your Understanding,” the clip — which was produced as part of the online travel company’s ongoing “Find Yours” campaign — tells the story of Artie Goldstein, a retired business owner who admits to feeling apprehensive before attending his daughter Jill’s same-sex wedding in California.

… Dara Khosrowshahi, Expedia’s chief executive officer, said he was proud to share the family’s unique experience. “At the heart of Artie’s story is the idea that travel is deeply personal,” Khosrowshahi noted. “We’ve built our entire brand behind that idea. The trip to his daughter’s wedding changed his perspective on fatherhood, his daughter’s happiness and her same-sex marriage.”
