In less than a year Priceline's act-now deal app has quintupled in destinations. Even better for users is the savings they're seeing booking via mobile as opposed to published rates on Prineline's website.

In an internal study, Priceline found that users of its mobile apps and mobile website usually found the lowest rates when they checked-in at a hotel on Thursday nights.

However, the study found that despite those late-in-the-week bargains, last-minute bookers wielding smartphones and tablets registered Sundays as the most popular night to check-in at a hotel, Priceline says.

The study of these booking patterns among Priceline’s mobile users was conducted in late July and early August, a Priceline spokesperson says.

The mobile booking data were part of a Priceline announcement about the expansion of its Tonight-Only Deals, which is available through its mobile website and Priceline Negotiator apps for iOS and Android.

The Tonight-Only Deals, with same-day bookings required, have been broadened to cover some 150 U.S. destinations, up from around 34 at launch in late September 2011.

Priceline claims the same internal study found that mobile bookers accessing Tonight-Only Deals saved 41% compared with published hotel rates on Priceline.com, and that 25% of those people booking Tonight-Only Deals on their mobile devices saved more than 50%.
