Skift Take

The romance of flying, further and further from reality, even in less mature markets like Asia now.

No-frills airlines have continued to increase their global market share of total airline seats and flights. OAG data shows that no-frills carriers will make up 26 per cent of all scheduled airline seats in August – up by 1 percentage point on August 2011. They will also run 22 per cent of all flights globally this month…they only accounted for 11 per cent of all seats and 9 per cent of flights in August 2003.

OAG: “the contrast between the mature low cost markets of Europe and North America which recorded no growth and the fast paced high growth markets in the Asia Pacific and Middle East regions, which will see growth of 29% and 22% respectively in August 2012 versus 2011.”
