Skift Take

Travel startups continue iterating on the current purchase cycle with the additional data and focus, but there are few shakeups in the process of getting from points A to B.

This week’s startups approach the travel cycle from different angles whether it’s a focus on serving a niche group of travelers or using available data to better inform users’ trips.

>> Find Everything Historic is a search site and marketplace for historic properties where travelers can find vacation rentals and hotels housed in historical buildings. Subscribers can list their properties on the site to find new customers and guests.

SkiftTake: The site falls into a growing collection of niche travel companies that serve users with a dedicated passion to a particular kind of travel or experience.

>> Roomyeti Roomyeti is a vacation rental search engine that aggregates listings from a number of other rental sites including, Roomorama and 9flats. Users can search listings based on date, neighborhood and rental type.

SkiftTake: It will be difficult for Roomyeti to attract enough bookings to turn its cut of reservations into an actual business model.

>> Skedadel is a local discovery site based on Instagram photos. The app pulls phones that have been geotagged on Instagram and groups them by location. Users can pick any city or neighborhood to see photos that people have taken at specific locations.

SkiftTake: Instagram has become a critical travel tool in the consideration phase so companies that transform interest into actions are positioning themselves within the new millennial-driven travel cycle.

>> LocalFu turns locals into remote tour guides. For $5, visitors can tell a local about their travel situation and logistics in order to receive a suggested itinerary or list of ideas that fit their preferences.

SkiftTake: The site is among a growing group of online platforms that attempt to cheaply and quickly connect locals with visitors. None have had success at amassing any significant customer base at this point.

>> LastRoom recently launched a travel management system for small to medium-sized companies. In addition to search and bookings, the platform stores all invoices and generate real-time reports of employees’ spend.

SkiftTake: Business travelers and owners are increasingly looking for ways to book their own travel for cheap without giving up on the benefits of established traveler systems that track and store data. LastRoom’s new product is one of several that give users more flexibility.
