After five years of little growth, Reno-Tahoe tourism officials say the area’s hotels and resorts showed significant improvement last year including the first double-digit increase in taxable room revenues in more than a decade.
The Reno Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority says room revenues grew 12 percent from 2012 to 2013.
Room rates reached a daily average of more than $83 for all hotels in Washoe County last year. That’s a 9.6 percent gain from 2012 and the biggest annual increase since 2007.
RSCVA CEO Chris Baum said Wednesday part of the improvement was due to Reno hosting the U.S. Bowling Congress’s Open and Women’s Championships last spring. He also singled out Hot August Nights’ inaugural Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction, which sold $14.2 million worth of vintage vehicles.
