Foodie tourism is a growing global trend, and this quick survey gives a snapshot of how its influence changes based on demographics in one region.

Food has a much stronger influence on men than women when it comes to selecting travel destinations, suggests a new survey from Asian metasearch site Wego.

The site surveyed 300 travelers from Singapore and Malaysia to see how much food influenced their travel decisions. More than half of all respondents, or 58 percent, said they pick destinations based on food.

Every man surveyed said they pick travel destinations based on food, but only 26 percent of women admitted the same.

Older travelers were also more likely to say that a destination’s cuisine influenced their decisions.

Almost all respondents older than 35 years old said they choose travel destinations based on food, which is the opposite of those younger than 35 who say food has little to no impact.

The top foodie destinations are those nearby the respondents in Singapore and Malaysia. Respondents say they travel to Thailand for pad thai, dim sum in Hong Kong, ramen in Japan, and satay in Malaysia.
