Skift Take

Instagram, and social media in general, is now the number one place where people flaunt their travels -- both taunting and inspiring those stuck at home.

Each week the Instagram community team leads a hashtag project asking users to post photos around a certain theme.

The team must have have drank one too many pumpkin spice lattes when it decided to create a campaign asking users to post photos of the changing season where they live. The majority of photos uploaded with the hashtag #WHPsignsoftheseason show fall foliage at its filtered best.

Ad agency OutCast then dug through those photos and others with festive fall hashtags to come up with a list of the six best places for snap-happy travelers to surround themselves with leaves, fresh air, and open water.

The list includes the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina, Vermont’s Route 100, Litchfield Hills in Connecticut, New York’s Catskills region, Bar Harbor in Maine, and the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
