Photos of closed park gates have spread around the Internet, but these numbers show the very real impact that the shutdown is having on hotels from large chains to family-run inns.

Weekly hotel performance data released Thursday confirmed hoteliers’ suspicions that the government shutdown was indeed keeping travelers off the roads and out of hotels.
Washington reported a 12.1% year-over-year decline in occupancy last week, a flat average daily rate and a 12.1% drop in revenue per available room, according to STR.
