Aeroflot Plans on Allowing Flyers to Make Calls and Text Onboard in 2014

There are significant steps that need to be taken before the airline introduces call capabilities onboard, but the move would be an interesting exercise for other airlines, considering similar initiatives, to watch.

Aiming to meet increasing demand for in-flight wireless Internet services, the national airline Aeroflot is set to boost its provision over the next few years.
Offering wi-fi is only the first phase of three for Aeroflot, the second being the introduction of GSM services – both voice and messaging – and the third, adoption of the fifth generation of the Inmarsat satellite system used by OnAir, expected to roll out in 2015-2016.
