Myanmar will go ahead with a proposed new international airport at Hanthawady, central Bago,  just 50 km from Yangon, to cope with anticipated flood tide of tourists by 2017.

Hanthawaddy International Airport…will cost around $1 billion to build. Once open in Dec 2017, it will be able to handle up to 12 million passengers a year, but could be expanded in phases to accommodate 35 million passengers a year.

Reports earlier this week suggested that only four companies — Incheon Airport Consortium, Yongram-CAPE-JGC Consortium, Vinci Airport (France) and Taisei Corporation – – had submitted proposals for the contract….According to the DCA, the winning tender will be announced by late July with a scheduled start of the project in September.
