New Zealand is trying to get out from under the shadow of its big neighbor to the west, and believes that easing the visa process may be one step toward that goal.

Auckland Airport’s general manager for corporate affairs, Charles Spillane, says New Zealand visa changes announced today will propel growing arrivals from China.

“China is New Zealand’s fastest growing tourist market and these changes will help to fuel that growth,” he said.

Visa changes to boost air travel from China were announced in Shanghai today during an official visit by New Zealand’s prime minister. From May 1, multi-entry visitor visas will be extended from 12 months up to 24 months.
