It may be too late to change your plans for New Year's Eve, but some of these cities from Atlanta to Hong Kong and Sydney could be on your party bucket list.

If watching the ball drop in Times Square is high on your bucket list, then sure, head to New York City. But if you prefer the bright lights and free-flowing Champagne without the tourist hoopla, steer clear of Manhattan: There are plenty of other cities ringing in 2013 in a truly memorable fashion.

    Tokyo is a great city to celebrate New Year’s Eve: it blends the traditional and cultural beauty of Japan with a lot of excitement. Shanghai has huge western-style parties like what you’d see in NYC, with the new rich clamoring to see and be seen. I think more people will enjoy NYE on some of Asia’s great beaches and resorts, like in Bali or the Philippines or Phuket.
