TripIt’s data suggests that the travelers value big-brand loyalty programs and have an expectation of service and quality that they’re not willing to gamble on.

What…do we know about the Top 12 hotels in the USA booked by TripIt’s smartphone-reliant users?

  • They’re all affiliated with big brands, with Marriott and Hilton accounting for eight of the 12 properties.
  • They travel to big cities, with San Francisco and New York accounting for eight of the 12.
  • They like staying in central locations in big cities, such as Times Square.
  • Many of them recently completed significant renovations.

According to TripIt executive Nancy Ramamurthi, TripIt’s users are highly educated, frequent travelers who own smartphones, with 27% owning two smartphones, she says. They rely on mobile computing and apps like TripIt to keep their busy work lives organized.
